New Zealand’s hospitality industry is on the cusp of a new wave of opportunity, following the Government’s recent Budget 2025 announcement. With a $13.5 million boost to international tourism marketing and a surge in tourism spend already underway, hospitality operators have every reason to gear up for growth.
Tourism investment expected to lift visitor numbers
As part of Budget 2025, the Government has committed an additional $13.5 million to Tourism New Zealand to attract more international visitors between July 2025 and March 2026. The campaign is expected to bring in around 23,000 additional tourists, contributing more than $100 million in international visitor spend.
This comes off the back of already-strong momentum. Total tourism expenditure in New Zealand reached $44.4 billion in the year ending March 2024 — a 14.6% increase compared to the year before.
With international travel confidence rebounding and sustained investment in infrastructure and promotion, tourism is once again becoming a cornerstone of the economy — and hospitality businesses will be on the front line of this growth.
Hospitality operators encouraged to prepare for demand
For cafés, restaurants, hotels, and foodservice operators, now is the time to prepare for increasing foot traffic and demand.
That might mean:
-
Updating or expanding kitchen equipment.
-
Refreshing front-of-house areas.
-
Increasing capacity or exploring new service formats.
Access to the right equipment plays a key role in delivering consistently great experiences — especially when operations scale quickly.
At SilverChef, we work with thousands of hospitality businesses across New Zealand who are choosing to grow with confidence. Rent-Try-Buy allows operators to access quality commercial equipment without the large upfront cost — and provides the flexibility to change equipment to meet customer demand as their business evolves.
